Tools

  • Low-Temp Glue Gun
  • Long Serrated Knife or Saw (minimum 8" blade)
  • Wire Cutters
  • Paint Brush
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Cut the two foam sheets into six equal 6″ squares by cutting each sheet in half lengthwise and then cutting each of the halves into three equal squares.  Next, carefully cut each square in half lengthwise so you have two ½” x 6″ x 6″ pieces.
  2. Use the metal cookie cutter to cut a star out of each foam square.  Use the scrap foam as sanding blocks to sand away any rough edges on the stars.
  3. Use the metal apple corer to punch the hole out of the center of each star for the bell to hang.  If the hole is not big enough for your bells, use the scrap pieces of foam as sanding blocks and sand away the material in the center of the hole to make it bigger.
  4. Brush a coat of Mod Podge onto the stars.  Lay the tissue paper over the stars while the Mod Podge is still wet. Apply a top coat of Mod Podge to seal the tissue.  Allow to dry before covering the other side.
  5. Once the stars are dry, use a toothpick to poke a hole through the top of each star for the silver string to thread through.
  6. Glue the red and blue ribbons around the edges of each of the stars being careful not to glue them over the holes for the string.  The reason for poking the holes first is because it is hard to poke through the glue.
  7. To hang the bells, cut twelve 2″ pieces of wire.  Fold each piece into a U shape.  Thread the wire through the hanger at the top of the bell and insert the ends into the foam at the top of the opening, gluing in place.
  8. Thread the string through the stars to hang.
